Tiger attacked in India

 The authorities say the tiger, aged between 10 and 12 years, killed a farmer in Kerala state and a woman in neighbouring Tamil Nadu state last week, and had attacked another man.

It was killed in the Gudalur forest on the state border on Wednesday evening.

India’s tiger population has grown rapidly with 2,226 tigers recorded in 2014, up from 1,706 in 2011.

The district authorities had deployed 160 forest guards to hunt down the tiger, which was spotted chasing a deer in the forest on Wednesday afternoon.

The animal was shot dead when it attempted to attack the guards, officials said.

There were a spate of tiger attacks in India last year, with at least 20 people killed.

The killings created tension, with angry farmers vandalising government offices and threatening to hunt down the tigers themselves.

With increasing human encroachment into their reserves, tigers often compete for resources with nearby villagers, leading to conflict.

His innovative captaincy has been praised and Williamson attributes it to sound gameplan which has been executed well by his team. “From my perspective, I am trying to do best job I can. It is important to come up with sound gameplans, execute them well, which we have done till this point,” he said.

While he refused to divulge on the team combination but the philosophy of trying “Horses for Courses” won’t change against England.

During his visit t o China, Nepal and China had sealed 10 separate agreements and Memorandums of Understanding on using the northern neighbour’s sea port facility, building a regional international airport in Pokhara and exploring the possibilities of signing a bilateral free trade agreement and finding oil and gas reserves in Nepal among others. Prime Minister Oli had called on Chinese President Xi Jinping. During the meeting, they had discussed matters relating to mutual interests and bilateral cooperation. The duo had also exchanged views on further consolidations of the bilateral relations.

 have to say that I wasn’t too sure about this Apple Kuchen when I started putting it together.  I did not doubt that it would be tasty…I mean, apples and custard inside a sweet crust….yeah, that’s good, obvi.  This sounded like it would be the high-rise cousin to the low-rise Alsatian Apple Tart.  It’s just that I did not get off to a very good start making it.


The crust was easy enough to make and roll out, but let me tell you that getting a soft, delicate crust pressed neatly into a tall springform pan is a pain in the you-know-what.  It was frustrating enough that the dough cracked into like a 1,000 pieces, but while I was pressing them back together into something crudely resembling a crust, the clasp on said springform decided to pop and now will not stay closed (actually, now it’s in the recycle bin).  Ugh.  I needed to go with it at that point, so I put a tight rubber band around the pan to hold it closed, dusted cookie crumbs on the bottom, piled it full of apples and chucked it in the oven to par bake.  Not my most brilliant idea, as within a few minutes, the rubber band popped in the heat and the buckle opened up again, cracking the crust.  I scrambled around and found a small pie pan that was big enough to hold the springform but tight enough to keep the buckle in the closed position.  The dough was still soft at that point and seemed to come back together when the pan was re-closed, but with all those apples in there, I really couldn’t tell what condition it was in. watch video

On the occasion, Prime Minister Oli invited Xi'an Municipal leaders to the International Buddhist Conference scheduled to be held in Nepal later this year. The Chinese leaders, during the meeting, briefed PM Oli about the support provided by Shaanxi province to Nepal after the April 25 earthquake. Also today, Prime Minister Oli visited the historic Terracotta warriors Museum at Xi'an. Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) to reduce loadshedding by 1 hour

 Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), the state-owned power utility, is reducing loadshedding hours to 77 hours per week from Tuesday, considering the board examinations of Grade 10, which is beginning on March 31. With this reduction in loadshedding hours, the country will face power cuts for around 11 hours per day on average, according to Bhuwan Kumar Chhetri, chief of Load Dispatch Centre at NEA. At present, the country goes without electricity for up to 84 hours per week, or 12 hours per day on average.

Nepal currently generates around 762 megawatts of hydroelectricity, whereas peak demand, this year, stood at over 1,300 MW. Even the power generation capacity of normal times dips during winter because most of the hydro projects are built under run-of-the-river model. Run-of-the-river hydro projects generate electricity whenever there is water in the river. So, as soon as water level dips, electricity production from these projects falls. To meet the deficit, the country is currently importing around 315 MW of electricity from India.

A dust storm hit the Kathmandu Valley at around 4 pm, affecting the traffic movement and flights in the late afternoon.As the roaring storm lasted for 15 minutes causing darkness, it created panic among the Valley denizens. The road traffic was brought to a grinding halt in different places for half an hour or so.The Tribhuvan International Airport, the country’s only international airport, was forced to close the runway for the time being due to poor visibility.
Two international flights — one each of Etihad Air and Jet Airways — coming to Kathmandu were diverted to Lucknow, according to a duty official at the TIA.
Likewise, some domestic flights, including of Buddha Air and Yeti Airlines, were diverted to Biratnagar.
The visibility had come down to 200 metres. Flights do not take off from or land at TIA if ground visibility is less than 1000 metres.
Nepal Police’s control room said no fatalities were reported till 4:30 pm. However, THT Online has received information about minor injuries on some individuals in different parts of the Valley as flying objects hit them.

 Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today claimed that unhindered access to sea through Chinese land as part of the transit transportation agreement for landlocked Nepal was one of the important achievements of his China visit.

Addressing the media at the VVIP lounge of the Tribhuvan International Airport upon his arrival after a week-long China visit, PM Oli said China welcomed the promulgation of the constitution, terming it a historic progress in the political transition of Nepal.

He said China hoped Nepal could use the opportunity to ensure political stability and economic development. PM said the main objective of his visit was to lay the foundation of long-term Nepal-China economic ties for economic development and prosperity of Nepal.

He said he visited the neighbouring countries to ensure their support for Nepal’s prosperity following the promulgation of constitution.

He claimed that the government had a policy of not comparing its relationship with the two neighbours. He said the government was for further strengthening the existing relations with them.

PM Oli said high-level authorities had assured him of strengthening bilateral relationship.

He added that he was expecting a high-level visit to Nepal from China in 2016, as he had invited Premier Li Keqiang on his behalf and President Xi Jinping on behalf of President Bidhya Bhandari to visit Nepal.

Answering queries on behalf of PM Oli, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Kamal Thapa said Nepal’s relationship with both its neighbours was different and there was no need to compare the relations with each of them.

He said the agreements signed with China would come into effect immediately. The PM and his team were welcomed by Speaker Onsari Gharti, Deputy PMs Bhim Rawal and Chitra Bahadur KC, besides ministers and UML leaders at TIA.
