Player of the match in Sunday’s T20 World Cup 2016 final between England and West Indies, Marlon Samuels has been fined 30 per cent of his match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct. Samuels played a brilliant knock of 85 off 66 balls to take West Indies closer to the England total of 156 runs. He was found to have breached Article 2.1.4 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “using language or a gesture that is obscene, offensive or insulting during an International Match”. Samuels had used abusive and offensive language towards Ben Stokes of England who bowled the last over of the innings with 19 needed off it. Carlos Brathwaite took West Indies to victory as he hit Stokes for 4 consecutive sixes in the last over. -
